If you’re looking for a place to start your Greek Island Hopping Trip, Mykonos is the place to start. Situated in the Cyclades, Mykonos is a popular tourist destination with hundreds of photo opportunities. It is one of the few Greek islands with a satisfactory bus system, so if you don’t have driver’s license, you can still visit this island! All around Mykonos town you can find white washed stone alleys, blue shutters, charming windmills, and if you come during summer, the flowers will be in bloom all around town. I loved Mykonos so much I even visited this island twice in one year! I’ve complied a list of my top favorite Instagrammable locations in Mykonos:
1. Hidden Mykonos Viewpoint
Surprisingly the best view of Mykonos Old Town is from an abandoned construction site! Not many people know about this location and this place was completely empty when we came here. Search Cafe Vero on Google Maps and right beside the cafe there are steps that go up the mountain. Keep walking until you find a run down construction site with a platform (about 5 min). It is an easy walk up the mountain! Find the exact location here.
Walking ✅ Scooter❌ Car ❌ ATV ✅ (in this case search for Mykonos Town Villas)
2. Katrin Restaurant
The exterior of the restaurant is a popular Instagram location due to the bougainvilleas that explode in colors during the summer. Arrive early for a photo before the restaurant opens or else the street will be lined with tables and chairs.
3. Orange and Blue Door
This location is quite off the grid, if I didn’t know about this location I would’ve missed it completely. It’s located on a street usually one wouldn’t walk through. This house seems empty or abandoned because the exterior is quite dirty and was even dirtier the second time I visited Mykonos two weeks later. Find this location with GPS coordinates 37°26’42.4″N 25°19’41.8″E.
4. #Happiness store
One of the popular stores in Mykonos for Instagram photos, this shop is easy to find and difficult to miss. You will easily pass by this shop on your way to check out Little Venice. Again, come in the morning for photos as after 9AM, the streets will be filled with tourists or locals heading for breakfast. In the afternoon, an old lady sits on the balcony and she’s one of the happiest person I’ve seen in a long time.
5. Mimalouka Restaurant
The exterior of Mimalouka restaurant is bursting with flowers during summer and serves as a great backdrop for photos. Come early in the morning for photos as this stop is located on a busy street but bear in mind you may clash with delivery men bringing in produce for the day. Directly Google “Mimalouka Restaurant” to pinpoint this location!
7. Kayak Ice Cream Shop
Located in Mykonos Town, this shop is very easy to find and one of the popular Instagram locations in Mykonos. In the summer the flowers are in full bloom and decorate the street overflowing with their pinkness. Aim to take a photo before 9AM in the morning as after that, a lot of workers are doing their deliveries and the first set of tourists have awoken and starting to explore the town.
8. Outside the M.Eating Mykonos Restaurant
If pink doesn’t suit you, head to M.Eating restaurant for the orange bougainvilleas that are in bloom here. As usual, come early for photos before the restaurant opens and the waiters start putting the tables and chairs outside.
9. Outside the crepe shop
This is another popular Instagram location partly due to the blue “Crepe” sign which compliments the white-washed shop exterior. Although I did not try the sandwiches/toast or crepes, I did order a two scoop limonade gelato which was just satisfactory. To find this location, search “Hibiscus” on Google – it’s known as a fruit parlor (though I do not know why) or click here for a direct link.
10. Paraportiani Orthodox Church
This is one of the churches in Mykonos every tourist comes to visit at least once during the trip. It’s located right next to Mykonos Old Town, and most of the time you find yourself ending up here after wandering the streets of Mykonos. This church is completely white with none of the blue-roof dome you would expect to see in Greece. Nonetheless it is still very beautiful and worth a photo. This church is quite difficult to take a photo with, because all throughout the day there are shadows cast everywhere. The best time of day to come for a photo is probably during noon where the sun is directly above you.
11. Boni’s Windmill
One of my favorite places to watch the sunset is from Boni’s Windmill as it is located on a cliff and gives you a jaw dropping bird’s eye view of Mykonos town and the ocean. A lot of couples and tourists gather here for sunset shots and it may be difficult to snag a lone shot with you only. Nonetheless if you wait a little, crowds usually leave right after the sun disappears in the horizon and you may be able to get that one shot you’re looking for
And that’s it for now! It is so easy to wander through Mykonos Old Town and find cute corners to take pictures in. Here are just some random places we thought was cute and stopped to take some photos.
