Other than the popular cave hotel terraces to take hot air balloons from, I recommend also spending 1-2 days heading to one of the hot air balloon take off points to see the balloons up close! There are a number of spots in Cappadocia that are hot air balloon take off points and I wanted to share today my favorite spot to go to (and I promise no one knows this place and it is 90% guaranteed you WILL be the ONLY ones there!).
I spoke to some Turkish locals to find one a couple hot air balloon take-off points and did a location scout the day before. I was living in Göreme town and I was looking for a post I was ABLE to walk to the morning of, IN THE DARK, and within 30 minutes. Luckily I found a spot and when I went there for photos the next morning, I realized we had an AWESOME spot. The spot I am about to recommend is super close to town and within walking distance of all the cave hotels in Göreme.
Best hiking trail to take hot air balloons in the morning (20 minute easy hike)
Step-by-Step Directions (Photos with description are provided below):
- Google search: Cappadocia Tours – Turco Travel and mark this place on Google (I’ve provided the link for reference). This is the starting point of the hike and it is located at the edge of town.
- Right beside the shop you will notice three small mountains and you will notice a path between the two, take that path.
- In front of you there are two sets of stone walls you need to climb over and up. They are not too high so don’t worry.
- Once you pass over the second wall barrier, take the path to the left.
- Continue uphill and you have arrived! There is a long path so choose a spot anywhere. You can change spots once it’s sunrise and you have a better of view of the hot air balloons preparing to fly!
This is the starting point of the hike, find this shop and mark it on your map!
Take the path between the three mountains as shown in the photo
Start the hike by climbing over these two stone walls.
Take the path and cross over the second wall barrier.
Once you pass over the second wall barrier, take the path to the left.
Continue up the hill along the path
Once you get to the top of the hill you’ve arrived! There is plenty of space for you to walk around, choose your favorite spot to take photos!
