Ios Travel Guide: How to find Never Bay

Ios Travel Guide: Never Bay

While researching on fabulous beaches in Ios to visit, I came across some hidden gems that are unknown to tourists. These places were more difficult to get to, but once you’re there, you are rewarded with insane crystal clear water and the space all to yourself. I was more interested in finding these “mystery” places instead of visiting traditional beaches in Ios. This is not to say the beaches were not good enough, I am more of the explorer type and I always relish in the thought of exploring somewhere new everyday.

Never Bay is a secluded bay surrounded by giant cliffs off on three sides. Never Bay is not it’s ACTUAL name, there is no name for this place. However, Never Bay was first coined by the boys from @lostboysbar. Hence, people started using the name. This place is quite difficult to find, but NOT impossible. Actually it was easier to find than Flat Rock Bay.

This bay is suitable for taking photos of the crystal clear turquoise water, cliff jumping, snorkeling (there are so much fish down there!). Due to it’s secluded location, there are some tips and suggestions before I begin with the Step-by-Step on how to get to Never Bay.

  • To get here involves driving on dirt road, so rent an ATV or car to get here. We tried with a scooter and we had to stop halfway because that’s how bad the roads were.
  • No food options nearby so bring your own food and take away your own garbage!
  • To get down to Never Bay you need to descend from a cliff which is quite scary so take your time!
  • Aim to spend 3-4 hours here (getting here, the descent, swimming, and the climb back up).
  • Lighting is best after 11AM, any earlier the sun will be casting shadows on the cliffs and doesn’t look too good in photos.

Step-By-Step Instructions how to get to Never Bay

GPS Coordinates for Never Bay – save these on your phone! When in doubt, open Google Maps and check if you’re walking in the right direction!

Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to get to Never Bay. There is also a step-by-step guide with photos below!

  1. Drive in the direction of Manganari Beach, Never Bay is located to the east of Manganari Beach.
  2. When coming up the last corner of Maganari Beach, make a left. Head in the direction of the signpost that says ‘Maganari South”.
  3. Drive to the end of the road. At the end of the road it will start becoming bumpy as it is a dirt road. Turn left.
  4. Continue straight for about 1km and you will feel the road is veering you towards the left.
  5. You will come across a fork. The left side looks like more people have driven across it than the right. Take a LEFT.
  6. Continue until you come across some nicely construction short wall in front of you. Turn right at the fork and continue to walk along the wall. As you walk, the wall should be on your left.
  7. At this point you should be be going downhill. In front of you there is a trail, continue.
  8. At the end of the trail (which is the top of a cliff) there is a place to park your ATV or car.
  9. If you’re facing the ocean, to the right is a nice beach (definitely secluded and not sure how to get down there!), and to the left is Never Bay.
  10. Climb downhill to get to Never Bay. The best way to climb down is to face the ocean (south) and climb in that direction first, then tackle the rocks to the left. The rocks are more flatter instead of climbing from left of the “somewhat” parking lot you see.
