Recommended Hotsprings Hotel in Jiaoxi, Yilan | Taiwan

Wellspring by Silks
To celebrate New Years, my family and I decided to take a really small family vacation to Jiaoxi, Yilan, which is around 1-1.5hr car ride from Taipei. It was a really last minute decision to go on this trip, so booking hotels was a great hassle. A lot of the five star hot springs hotel were either fully booked or really expensive. There were rooms for up to 10,000 NT/ night (Evergreen Jiaoxi Hotel and Hotel Royal Jiao Xi). Wow. Usually prices are not that expensive if you book well in advance.

However, I booked Wellspring by Silks two days in advance and prices were quite high, our hotel room (twin room) turned out to be around 6550 NT. The hotspring is well-located, around a 5 minute walk from Jiaoxi train station (if you take the train).

The lobby is well designed and service is so good you didn’t even have to step to the check-in counter at all. When we walked in, we were ushered to the sofa to rest, try out some of their snacks, drink tea and they will help us with the check-in process. The whole check-in process happened as I was lounging on their sofa eating some popcorn and drinking sencha.

Customer Service: ***** (Excellent!)

We were given our room cards. Check in time: 3:00PM and Check Out: 11:00AM. My sister and I shared a twin room.

Each room had:

  • Yukata robe to wear after you shower.
  • tea bags x 3
  • matcha bowls to drink tea from x 2
  • two small Taiwanese (綠豆糕) snacks to enjoy x2 (we had these restocked once too!)
  • washroom amenities such as toothbrushes.. etc
  • water bottles x4 (feel free to ask room service to restock anytime)

About the washrooms! Evaluating washrooms are so important to me and I am very strict when I comment on washrooms. In Taiwan and especially in China, washrooms are the least important part of a person’s life and usually they are poorly designed. In China, I once lived in a hotel where the toilet was situated right inside the shower! I was absolutely dumbfounded. Thankfully, the washroom at Wellspring by Silks was very comfortable. The sink space was a little too small, it was a little difficult to put all my lotions/face creams on it as well as my sister’s.

And to the most important part- the hot spring! Each room is equipped with a hot spring bath half situated outside. The best part is, the hot spring bath is not located inside the washroom, it is outside. This is perfect because usually when you bathe in hot springs, your body temperature rises and the room becomes stuffy. Especially when the hot spring is in the washroom, the room becomes really stuffy. Having the hot spring situated outside where you an breathe fresh air is perfect, the air is cool outside and very enjoyable.

I took the whole tea set to the hot spring tub so I could drink some tea and munch on some snacks as I bathe. Can people outside see you? I would say yes, so don’t walk into the tub naked. The nearest building is quite far away but if today they were holding a telescope or something, you never know.

The hot spring bath is quite shallow, but it is enough for two people to sit inside and the water just coming up to your shoulders.

Breakfast in the morning was very fruitful. There was a wide selection of fruit and food to eat. Scrambled eggs, bacon, and every Taiwanese fruit you could think of (minus mangoes haha!). They are not in season.

Breakfast at Wellspring by Silks

Breakfast is from 7-11AM and check out was at 11AM. I was able to get one last bathe in the hot spring before we had to check out at 11AM. Lighting is better in the morning to take photos.
